No Growth Without Learning

Often, the content I create for this Daily Tips newsletter comes from the challenges I witnessed that week, and over these past few days, this has been an issue I've seen raise its head more than a couple of times. Disgruntled teams, switching off, not feeling valued. Poor communication from the leadership in their business, and they are just stuck in the same old day-to-day cycle.
If you have good people in your business and you want them to stay switched on, engaged in what's best for the business, and to be bringing fresh ideas to the table, you need to invest in them too. You need to be communicative and make sure they understand just how important they are to the success of the business.
Ongoing training isn't just about ticking a compliance box or sending someone on a random course once a year. This week alone, I've witnessed numerous cases where someone is in a role they're expected to thrive in, yet the business owner hasn't given them adequate training to do so. And it's no surprise that said individuals were feeling undervalued and disengaged.
Here's the thing. When your staff feel like they're learning and progressing, they stay engaged. They feel part of the bigger picture. They speak up more. They start thinking like problem solvers, and let's be honest, these are the people we want sticking around.
It doesn't always need to be about sending someone out of the office for a day or two, and it doesn't need to cost a fortune. Even a monthly group session where each person shares a suggestion, a bit of cross-training between different departments in your business, or even just asking what they'd like to learn next, can make all the difference.
The most important thing to remember is that you need to create an environment where learning is normal, not just an afterthought, because team morale is down and people are considering leaving.
The benefits to your business as huge. Fewer mistakes, quicker turnarounds, better service. A team that's learning and growing in confidence is more competent and ultimately frees up your time to work on the things that really move the needle. Give your team to the tools to grow and in turn, your business will too.
