5 Key Steps To Overcome Failure

business mindset Jul 19, 2021

Nobody likes to fail and certainly wants to admit it but for me, failing is what leads us to be more successful. I've failed way more times than I'd like to admit but if you research any of the well-known entrepreneurs, you'll likely discover that they too have failed many times also.

I've created a list of 5 steps to help you overcome failure and just remember, you are 100% not alone.

1. Learn from your mistakes and failures

I've got a friend who's currently attempting to unicycle around the North Coast 500 route in Scotland. Until around 6 months ago, he'd never even sat on a unicycle seat. I've watched countless Facebook Lives with him learning to ride it in his local supermarket car park. I've watched him fall off literally thousands of times now but each time he gets back up and keeps trying. From struggling to stay on for as much as 10 seconds, he's now up to being able to ride for 20-30 mins at a time. Each time he falls off, he's better prepared for his next attempt.

2. Don't dwell on it

This is easier said than done but it's important that you take on board any lessons learned and move on. You can't change the past but you most certainly can change the future. This was something I struggled with personally. Some of my own mistakes were financially costly and took a number of years to get on top of. You can't focus on where you are going if you are always looking backward.

3. Don't be afraid to try again

Don't let the fear from your last failure stop you from trying to reach your goals. Remember my friend on the unicycle. He didn't fall once or twice and then just give up.

4. Surround yourself with positive people

No matter what it is you are trying to achieve, surround yourself with successful people who have done what you want to do or have similar experiences in business. This is the part I love about print coaching as I get to share both my own successes and failures and more importantly, stop you from making the same mistakes as I did. I also get to show you the stuff that worked really well too.

5. Realizing failure is part of the learning curve

Failure and mistakes aren't fun but they are what help us learn to be better at what we do. There are no massive hidden secrets to success. Success is a result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure.
